Hunting Phenomena

Josh and Sharon went on two pretty epic phenomenon hunts in 2022 (one based around the lunar eclipse in May and one based around the lunar eclipse in October). Their travels took them across Wyoming, New Mexico, and Arizona, and yielded lots of raw material for library phenomena.

October: Pennsylvania Act 48 Provider

Phenomenon Science Education is excited to announce that we have been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to serve as Act 48 providers. We have developed a series of professional learning workshops to help teachers and administrators better understand and work with Pennsylvania's new three-dimensional STEELS Standards. These standards represent part of a huge shift in science education that PSE instructors have spent close to a decade investigating and helping to implement in other states.

Contact us for information about these workshops.

October: Pennsylvania Science Teachers Association

On Monday, 10/3/2022, Sharon Cates and Josh Smith facilitated a workshop at the PSTA annual meeting in Lancaster. Entitled What is a Phenomenon Anyway? How to Read and Use the New Pennsylvania Science Standards, the session worked participants through an introductory phenomenon-based activity, a review of what a phenomenon is, and a lively discussion of the impending transition to the new three-dimensional STEELS Standards.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and we hope the folks who attended the session had a good time and found it useful.
